Sammy Squirrel Christians  (Read Deuteronomy 18:9-14)

"You know my friend Sammy?" asked Bart one evening.
"I think I'll call him 'Sammy Squirrel.' Every day his mom
packs him a nice lunch, but he always wants to have
something from everybody else's lunch, too."

"Huh," snorted Bart's brother, Mark. "What's that
got to do with squirrels?"

"Sammy makes me think of the squirrel that stole
the bird seed from our bird feeder even though he had
plenty of his own." explained Bart. "Like that squirrel,
Sammy isn't' satisfied with what he has."

"Well, that's no reason for you to call him names." Mom scolded mildly.

Later that evening, Bart was looking through a book on witch-
craft he had taken from the library. This is wild, he thought. These
guys do real magic! It would be fun to see it done.

Bart closed the book quickly when Dad came into the room.
"What do you have there?" asked Dad.

"Just a book," said Bart, feeling uneasy.

"The Magic in Witchcraft?" asked Dad, noticing the title. "Isn't
one Sammy Squirrel enough, Son?"

"What?" asked Bert. "Sammy doesn't have anything to do with
this."

"You wanted to call him 'Sammy Squirrel' because he had
everything he needed right in front of his face, but he still reached
out for more-and for things that don't belong to him," Dad
reminded Bart. "As a Christian, you have everything you need for
living. You have the Bible as your guide. You have our loving Lord
Jesus to forgive sins. You have the Holy Spirit to work in your life."

Dad paused, then added, "May I ask why you are reaching out for
more-and for things that don't belong to you, but to the devil?"

"I just thought I'd take a look," said Bart sheepishly.

"Don't even dabble in it," said Dad sternly. "God has filled you
to overflowing. You don't need anything else."

How about you? - Are you satisfied with all the wisdom and knowledge God has displayed in his Word?
