Alicia
Finds a Way
(Read Proverbs 4:20:27)
As Alicia browsed in Mrs. Elliott's craft shop, she spotted a cross-stitch sampler kit that pictured a teddy bear holding two balloons. Stitched below the teddy bear was a baby's name and birthday date. That sampler would be a nice gift for Aunt Melissa's new baby, thought Alicia, and it looks quite easy, too. She looked to see Mrs. Elliott beside her.
"Hello, Alicia," Mrs. Elliot said brightly. "I see you found something you like."
"Yes," replied Alicia. "This sampler would be a great gift for my aunt's new baby."
"Well," said Mrs. Elliot, "the kit contains everything you'll need-fabric, floss, needles, and a work chart. All you need to provide are the skills and patience."
"The patience might be the problem," said Alicia with a sigh. "I never seem to finish a project."
Mrs. Elliot smiled. "Alicia," she said, "Proverbs 4:26 says, 'Ponder the path of your feet, and let all your ways be established.' I memorized that verse long ago, and I still quote it often. It reminds me that I need to plan carefully what I'm going to do, and then I find that it generally turns out right. I think that would be a good verse for you to remember, too."
Alicia thought about it. A plan-that was just what she needed to finish the sampler! She decided to buy the kit. As she walked home she asked the Lord to help her make a plan and carry it out.
The next day Alicia was thumbing through an old magazine and came across a picture of a smiling baby. Suddenly she had an idea. Quickly, she cut out the picture and taped it to the mirror above her dresser. Now every time she looked at her mirror, she would see the pictures of the smiling baby. This would be a reminder to her to work on the sampler instead of wasting time.
It worked for Alicia. "I didn't give up, Lord," Alicia prayed when the sampler was finished. "I made a plan and carried it out. Thank you for helping me find the way." DRK
