Around and Around (Read Psalm 116:1-9)

"How come all the exits are blocked?" asked Robbie as the car circled around and around, climbing from one level to another in the nearly empty indoor parking lot.

"Yeah!" murmured Anna. "I don't like this place-it's spooky. It makes me nervous." It was getting dark outside, and Baby Sally was beginning to whimper, too.

"Well, there's no need to be nervous," Dad assured Anna, "but I can't imagine why they  have those exits blocked. This is ridiculous, I'm heading back-we'll go out at the entrance."

When they reached the entrance, the attendant wasn't on duty, and Dad drove right on out. "Well," said Robbie, "that was easy enough. We just had to go back to where we started."

"Right. Going back to the beginning is often a good idea," said Dad thoughtfully. "You know, sometimes we get so involved in our problems that we feel as if we're going in circles. We may even become nervous and afraid. Just as the parking lots exits were blocked, we often find that our efforts to solve our problems are 'blocked'-nothing seems to work. We need to stop our efforts and go back to the beginning."

"But how can we do that?" asked Robbie.

"Well," said Dad, "as Christians, Jesus is our beginning-the doorway into eternal life. Isaiah 30:15 says, 'In returning and rest you shall be saved.' We need to turn to Christ and ask for wisdom and comfort when we're feeling confused and don't know what to do. He's always ready to help us."

How about you? - Are things at school going badly for you? Is something at home upsetting you? Do you feel lost, afraid, or confused? Remember God's goodness to you in the past. Even when it seems that everything you tried has failed, you can turn back to Jesus. He promised to comfort and lead his children.

Key:  Return to Jesus

Memorize: "Return to your rest, O my soul, for the Lord has dealt bountifully with you."
